THE
TORTOISE
Tortoises have existed in one form or another for more than 220 million years and are world-wide symbols of perseverance, patience, and wisdom.
They are slow-moving, quiet, peaceful animals whose only form of protection against the dangers of the world is their hard exterior, and unfortunately for them, and us, are among the world’s most endangered vertebrates, with large amounts of their species rapidly heading toward extinction.
They have many threats but none are larger then Humans. We slaughter them for their meat, eggs, skin, and shells and sell them off as a delicacy. They also face habitat destruction, in both land and sea, largely due to Humans populating parts of the world that were once vacant. Because of this, their water is polluted, wetlands are drained, and forests are ravaged.
Humans are the problem, therefore Humans need to be the solution.
Be conscious of the waste you produce. Be aware of what you leave behind when you’re a tourist in areas they inhabit. Reduce the use of plastic in as many aspects of your life as possible.

The Tortoise is based around these ideas and fears of Tortoises becoming extinct. I find these creatures extremely fascinating given the fact that they’ve been on the planet for so long and their species has seen so much over that time.
